About
Your bright spirited child has now become a remote, disconnected teen. You feel like you don’t know what’s going on with them.
They spend so much time in their room you feel like you haven’t seen them in weeks and anytime you ask a question, all you get is a one-word answer or an eye roll.
Sometimes you’re even scared to knock on their door!
You feel like your teen has developed headphones as an extra body part, and you can never tell if they even hear a word you say.
Your child used to feel like they were a part of the family, and now they feel like their own person, and you just feel left out.
You knew this was coming.
Things do change as kids get older.
You understand that, but more often than not, it feels like you’re standing on quicksand.
You’re not really sure how to navigate the shifting sands of adolescence as you struggle with your role as a parent, supporting your teen in setting boundaries, helping them gain independence, all the while trying to stay connected.
You know hormones change and things happen in the brain and body during this time, you just didn’t expect it to be so hard.
The more you try to connect, the more removed they become, and you feel like you’re pushing them away when all you want to do is help.
You don’t really know what to do at this point.
Now you're looking for a therapist in Georgetown, TX.
As your teen nears young adulthood, you may even start to experience feelings of anger and resentment, as they shut you out of their life, all the while still living under your roof and eating your groceries.
This is often exacerbated in families with changing roles and relationships, such as when parents divorce or remarry.
Hi, I'm Kristen,
I'm a therapist in Georgetown, TX who helps teens and parents who are going through big life changes like divorce, co-parenting, launching into adulthood, or other changing changes at home, to take a breath and develop acceptance for what’s going on around and within them, so they can feel confident about their ability to navigate hard things.
Together we practice mindfulness skills, learning to be present in the moment rather than dwelling in the past or worrying about the future.
My therapy clients experience change over time as they learn about how the brain and body interact and how this all impacts mood.
I am trained in connecting how our early life experiences shaped us biologically and work with parents and teens to unpack how those adaptations are helping or hurting them now. My clients typically come to see me weekly, so they can develop a relationship with me and practice creating space for themselves, using their voice, and imagining their own hopes and dreams in this new season of their family.
In therapy, I help parents and teens focus on what matters most: staying connected, so your relationship survives in one piece through the tumultuous teen years. My goal is to support you in building out your toolbox with skills from session one, which can help you outside the therapy room when something new happens with your teen, unexpected relationship blips occur, or you’re just plain over this season of parenting.
Therapy in Georgetown, TX is awkward, I’m not gonna lie. It’s also a relief...
A relief to be able to take some time, practice new ways of being and laugh along the way.
