A Word About Insurance
I believe there should be no stigma in seeking therapy. However, I also believe one reason therapy is so powerful is because it is a truly private experience. I have made the choice not to accept insurance in my practice. This being said, I am an out of network provider for most PPO plans, and I can provide you a fabulous form for seeking reimbursement from your insurance company. We will discuss your needs for privacy on the phone and I am happy to answer any questions you have about how to maintain your privacy while utilizing your insurance. It is for this reason (and many others) that I decline to be an in network provider for any insurance company. As an out of network provider we can decide how much, if any, information you want shared with your insurance company.
If you do choose to seek insurance reimbursement, I’ve partnered with a company, Reimbursify to create more ease in the process. To check your Out-of-Network (OON) benefits or file a claim, simply use the buttons below.
Some things to consider, if you would like to use your insurance for therapy:
While it may be necessary to use insurance for financial reasons, there are some things to consider when you’re looking at your options. Using insurance requires a medical diagnosis, even if one doesn’t exist. Having this diagnosis on your teen’s record may impact health coverage in the future and certain occupations later on in life.
Depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, it is possible for services to be covered in full or in part. This only works for PPO plans however. If you are on an HMO, you’ll need to find a therapist on their approved list. As you probably know, each insurance company is vastly different. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services.
I’d recommend asking these questions to your insurance provider to help determine your benefits:
Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?
Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?
Do I need written approval from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?
Paperwork
I operate a paperless practice (yay!). After our initial consult, you’ll be sent a link to my HIPAA compliant client portal where you’ll electronically review and sign my practice policies and have you complete a intake questionnaire, so that I can get to know you better before our first official session.
Payment
In the HIPAA compliant client portal, along with the initial intake paperwork, you’ll be asked to keep a credit or debit card on file, which will be charged at the conclusion of each session.
Cancellation Policy
If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 48 hours beforehand. Otherwise, you may be charged for the full rate of the session.
